Throughout the history of the Bible, God has chosen many different individuals to do His work. God, many times, works through natural means to show His divine providence, and this is another way that He accomplishes His goals; by sending faithful people to do His tasks.
The thing is, when God calls on someone, He doesn’t ask for their resume. He doesn’t want their life story or their qualifications. He doesn’t care about how prepared or unprepared they think they are. He isn’t worried about what obstacles these people might think exist. He already knows all things anyway, but He certainly doesn’t ask for their opinion.
He just says to get it done.
God has called all of us today as well. To seek the lost, lead others to salvation, to serve our fellow man. But what provisions does God provide us with to make sure we can get these things done?
I. Help from our brethren
We all know the story of Moses, but one thing people may be surprised to know is that Moses wasn’t a strong speaker.
Exodus 4:10
10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”
Exodus 4:14
14 So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
God already had Moses covered! Moses had the help of Aaron to talk to the people and make known the will of God. Even Jesus called not one but multiple apostles, because He knew they would need the help of one another. The apostle Paul even built up and sought the help of other disciples, like Titus and Timothy.
Our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ are one provision that God has provided us with to strengthen us to do His will.
II. Help from God – He answers prayers
Matthew 21:22
22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Most people know the line from this song “some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.” However, that’s not exactly the case. Sometimes, God’s answer to prayer is “wait.” Sometimes it’s flat out “no.”
The point is, if we look to God and ask for guidance through prayer, we know that He will be there to strengthen us and provide a way to see His will accomplished through us!
III. Help from God – He is with us!
Matthew 28:20
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
These are the words of Jesus while delivering The Great Commission. Jesus, other times in the Bible called the Word, the one who delivered the message of salvation to the world and came to make the will of the Father known to all men. He is still here with us today; we still have the Word to guide us.
God even directly made the promise to Joshua.
Joshua 1:5
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
God is always there for us, and is always faithful to those who are faithful to Him. If we trust in the Lord and make it our purpose to fulfill His will, He will always be there to strengthen and guide us with everything we might need.
So next time you think “this is too hard” or “I’m not qualified for this,” remember that through God and through Christ Jesus, all things are possible. Greet the opportunity to do His will with a happy heart, and say “Yes, Lord; send me.”
Isaiah 6:8
8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
